The Language Arts Program at Meadows Academy is designed to build background knowledge and develop students into strong readers, both of which are essential for learning and success in later years.
In the Meadows Academy Core Knowledge classroom, a depth of learning is taking place each day and “magical experiences” happen which we have the privilege of witnessing. Students, for instance, are taught how to follow directions—an important skill that we aim to teach and develop to prepare them for kindergarten—as they learn to respect, relate, communicate, interact, and play with their classmates and teachers.
When you ask your child, “What did you do in school?” and she or he says, “Nothing,” we both know that learning took place and “nothing” is far from the truth. In case you find yourself wondering “Is this it?” as you hold your child’s artwork in your hands, the truthful answer is “no” because what you are beholding is not just “it.”
A significant amount of knowledge was acquired by your child not only during the activity of creating that work of art in your hands, but during the course of the day in which the creative process is integrated into other activities such as listening to stories, talking about goals with the teacher, resolving conflicts, speaking up his or her mind, participating in group activities, and performing other activities.
All of these take place in a positive and nurturing environment with a teacher dedicated to helping your child learn by acquiring specific skills and knowledge necessary for later learning.
When it comes to education, everything is cumulative.
