Learning Stick-to-Itiveness

“Thanksgiving” and the “Five Senses” were the themes last week. Students counted their blessings by reflecting on all the good things they are thankful for. The teachers then wrote down their reflections on the colorful “turkey feathers” that now adorn the school hallway. Take a moment and look to find out what your little one is thankful for!

Kodaly Music

One way to celebrate Thanksgiving is to focus on God’s love for His people and the true meaning of Christmas. Over the next 6 weeks we will be reading “Follow the Star” by Andy Mansfield which is the story of the first Christmas.

Last week, we started practicing songs for the annual Christmas Pageant which is coming up soon. Below are the songs we will be singing at the pageant:

1. God so Loved the World,
2. Away in A Manger,
3. The Virgin Mary Had A Baby Boy,
4. Go Tell It on the Mountain,
5. Twinkle, Twinkle, Christmas Star, and
6. Glory to God in the Highest.

We will be sending the mp3 of these songs soon so your children can practice at home.

Virtue of the Month

The Virtue of the Month (VOM) for November is Fortitude. Last week, our character education story was “Try and Stick with It” by Cheri J. Meiners. This book reinforces and teaches children about flexibility and perseverance which are essential to success in all areas of life, at all ages and stages.

Some thoughts and ideas students learned from the book include deciding to finish what you start; imagining yourself doing it; learning about how other people do it; remembering things you already do well; trying it a new way; taking a break and try again later; trying a little bit longer; learning from mistakes; taking a deep breath; and reminding yourself to stick with it.
