In Language Arts, students learned about the Letter L and worked on Letter L alphabet activities. They painted a lovely ladybug with little dots. They enjoyed placing lots of stickers on their Letter L collage, and used q-tip painting on the uppercase L and lowercase l.
Students listened to the read-aloud “Letter L Book” by Moncure. The children discovered and touched Letter L objects that came out of the “Magic Alphabet Bag.” They also saw the following realistic photo cards beginning with the Letter L: ladybug, lipstick, lamb, lamp, lion and lake to help them develop an awareness of the beginning sound of L. In addition, we read and enjoyed 2 fun board books: “Llama Llama Zippity Zoom” and “Llama Llama Nighty Night” both by Anna Dewdney.
In Math, students continued to review the number 2 and worked on their Number 2 book.
In Science Discovery, students continued to explore the “Five Senses: The Sense of Sound.” To help distinguish different sounds, students listened to 3 board books by Eric Carle. Each of Eric Carle’s books was attached to a sound module, with unique sounds for each book. The first book, “The Bird Calls,” helped the children discover 5 natural bird calls. The second book, “Do You Hear It,” helped the children discover 5 sounds from the animal world. And the third book, “Sing-Along Songs,” were simply enjoyable tunes!
Students also learned Nursery Rhymes and Songs about the Letter L! We sang L for Little Piggy, L for Little Bo Peep, and L for Ladybug, L for Lucy Locket, and L is for London Bridge.
The Virtue of the Month character education story was “Thanksgiving” by Trudi Strain Trueit. Encourage your child to give thanks during the season of Thanksgiving. Ask him/her: “Are you thankful for your books, toys, and family?”
At home: Please review letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L and their sounds. The next time you are at the library, borrow fun and interesting board books for your little one and read together!
