The Dino-Hearts talked a lot about snowflakes today on our Meadows Academy PJ day! First we talked about how each snowflake is “unique” like a fingerprint. We placed a fingerprint on our class rules and looked at the different pattens in each print. Then we went to the kitchen to make our own “unique” snowflakes using Tortillas! These are super easy to make so keep it in mind for another snow day home(not that I anticipate any but you never know!)
1. Fold and cut tortillas like you would a paper snowflake
2. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle cinnamon & sugar on top
3. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 min. or until they are crispy.
4. Shake confectionary sugar on top & enjoy!
While we waited for our snowflake tortillas to bake, we worked on an art/craft snowflake project.
Each of the children used pipe cleaners to twist together and make snowflakes. We tied our snowflakes with string to a pencil so they hang about 2 inches apart. Using Mason Jars we poured in a hot mixture of borax and placed the snowflakes in the borax mixture in the jar. We made some predictions about what will happen. These should crystalize nicely by Monday and be a beautiful decoration in our classroom. Looking forward to seeing how they turn out!
At the end of the day, the children wrote about their favorite activity. We will work more on these writing pieces on Monday. So much fun and so little time!
Have a great weekend everyone!
