The Dino-Hearts enjoyed hearing the story, Snow by: Cynthia Rylant today. This author does a wonderful job using lots of descriptive words to explain different types of snow. Will we see “fat, thick snowflakes” drifting slowly down or fast moving tiny snowflakes filling up our world? We enjoyed the vivid pictures in this story and talked about what kind of snow we enjoy. While the adults are all a buzz about the coming snow, children always seem to have a positive perspective on things..even snow! Our writing activity today with this book was to draw a picture of something we like to do in the snow and write words to go with our picture. It was fun to guess what kind of snowflakes we will get tonight but certainly they are all hoping for a lot!
In Math we started our first page in our Math Journals. We will do a page every week to go along with a concept we have talked about as a class. The children are always asked to draw their thinking along with their numbers. Today we worked on an addition problem with bears.
I had a chance to meet with all the children today to work on reading. They each should have a new book and for some, a little homework to go along with the book. We have worked on the books already in class. Please have them read the book with you tonight and bring back the book and homework when it is finished. The children who brought their Meadows Homework bags back also had a chance to pick out something they like from the classroom to bring home to share it with you in addition to their reading book. We love that they are enjoying sharing something with you.
Amaan is our calendar leader this week and has been doing a wonderful job! He even had a chance to put his own birthday on the calendar, February 9th! How exciting!
The children worked really well today and even had a chance to fit in some stations. It is wonderful to see the kids getting used to the different stations and being able to go an enjoy them independently.
Have a wonderful snowy evening!
