Letters in My Name

What a fun and enjoyable first week of school preschoolers had! In Reading, students listened to the story on “Rusty the Respectful Raccoon” (Library Book Pick) on the iPad.

In Language, students did a “Letters in My Name” activity. The teacher asked each child what letter their name starts with. Then they were asked to draw the beginning letter of their name on paper and decorate it with stickers.

In Nursery Rhymes, we learned 2 finger play songs: “Two Red Apples” and “I Am Special.”

In Math, students did a “Shapes Activity”. They reviewed the following shapes: circle, square, triangle and rectangle. We also worked on “Patterns.” Each student was given 3-4 shapes and was asked to match the pattern with the shapes.

In Virtue of the Month, preschoolers learned this prayer: “Thank you God for this day, when we work and when we play. Bless my friends and family too, today we will be respectful for you. Amen.”  Students were also taught to say, “Thank you God for..…” Each child said what they were thankful for and then they picked a book to look through while waiting for their day to end.

Parent Tip: Sing the nursery rhymes, “I Am Special”  and “Two Red Apples” with your child. Review the shapes circle, square and triangle. Talk to your child about the virtue of the month. Ask your child what blessings they thank God for.

Two Red Apples
Way up in the apple tree,
Two red apples smiled at me.
I shook the tree as hard as I could.
Down came the apples,
Mmmmmm…were they good!

I Am Special (Sung to the tune of “Are You Sleeping”)
I am special,
I am special;
Look and see,
Look and see;
I have ______ hair; ( hair color)
I have ______ eyes. (eye color)
They belong to me,
They belong to me.
