In Reading, early preschoolers enjoyed several read-alouds this past week including “Three Billy Goats Fluff” by Rachael Mortimer; “Gorilla Be Good” by Maria Fleming; “Mother Goose Pop Up Book” by Joan Walsh Anglund; “Old MacDonald Had a Farm,” and “Baby Farm Animals” both by National Geographic.
In Nursery Rhymes, we sang and danced to a number of songs and rhymes such as “The More We Get Together,” “Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush,” “Old MacDonald,” “Hokey Pokey,” and “The Alphabet Song.”
In Language, we learned the letter name and the sound of G. Early preschoolers listened to “My Letter G Book” by Jane Belk Moncure to introduce the letter G. Then they played the Magic G Box Game, in which the children took objects that start with the letter G out of the box. They found a guitar, barbie girl, green rectangle, goat, and Goofy! Early preschoolers also worked on making a Letter G for Goat; a Letter G Collage while pasting goats on G; a Handprint Goat with watercolors; a Lowercase G with Green Glitter; and a Goat Paper Bag Puppet during language arts activities. We also reviewed the letters A,B,C, D, E, and F.
In Math, early preschoolers continued to count objects from 1-5; reviewed the color green; the shape rectangle; and counted up to 20 during calendar activities. They also sang the song “Seven Days of the Week” (see sidebar). Next week, we will introduce the diamond shape.
In Science Discovery, we talked about goats and the different parts of the animal as we created a goat paper bag puppet.
In Virtue of the Month, we listened to “Clifford’s Good Deeds” and learned the importance of helping our family and friends in need.
