Early preschoolers continued to build on their reading skills last week as they listened to the read-alouds “If You Take a Mouse to the Movies” by Laura Numeroff, “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” and “The Christmas Story” by Little Golden Book.
We also sang several nursery rhymes including “Twinkle, Twinkle Christmas Star,” “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” and “Little Miss Muffet.”
Early preschoolers also learned about the letter M and the sound of M. Students had fun doing Letter M activities in the centers. They played with money in a cash register; painted a picture of a monkey; pasted monkeys on a Letter M Collage; and made little red mittens. During circle time, they touched marbles, markers, make-up bag, monkey, mermaid toy, and Minnie Mouse from the “Magic Alphabet Bag.”
In Visual Arts, students painted red Christmas stockings and made a Frosty the Snowman craft using jewels, paint, and red glitter.
In Math, we had fun playing a number game that helps students recognize numbers 1 to 6. We also played other counting games and used manipulatives to help them count objects up to 6. Then we reviewed shapes.
In Movement and Coordination, early preschoolers learned how to play croquet as they used a mallet to hit the ball inside a wicket/stake.
In Virtue of the Month, early preschoolers learned about the virtue of generosity and listened to the story “Away in a Manger.”
